افزایش بیماری ام اس در اسکاتلند

تحقیقات جدید نشان داد که مردم ساکن جزایر اورکنی در اسکاتلند از بیماری مولتیپل اسکلروزیس (MS) رنج می‌برند و تعداد این بیماران در حال افزایش است.جزایر اورکنی مجموعه جزایری است در شمال کشور پادشاهی متحد و جنوب جزایر شتلند قرار دارد که اورکنی جزئی از منطقه سیاسی اسکاتلند محسوب می‌شود.
محققان گفتند: شیوع این بیماری در جزایر، بسیار بالاتر از هر نقطه دیگر در سراسر جهان است.

آنها افزودند: تعداد مبتلایان این بیماری از دهه 1980 افزایش یافته است و این تعداد از هر 100 هزار ساکنان اورکنی و شلتلند به 190نفر ثبت شده است.تحقیقات نشان داد که علاوه بر این از هر 100 هزار ساکنان با خطر بالای ابتلا به این بیماری را مواجه هستند اما آمار و ارقام ثبت شده تعداد بالاتری را به ثبت رسانده است.

قبل از انجام این تحقیقات شمال اسکاتلند بیشترین تعداد این بیماری را داشته است.در حال حاضر از 100 هزار ساکنان جزایر اورکنی 402 نفر به این بیماری مبتلا شده اند و این درحالی است که زنان از مردان به این بیماری مبتلا شده‌اند.

بر اساس اطلاعات و داده‌های محققان از 170 نفر زن مبتلا به این بیماری یک نفر از این بیماری به شدت رنج می برد.دکتر جیم ویلسون از دانشگاه ادینبورگ مرکز علوم سلامت جمعیت گفت: این یافته ها ممکن است روشهای تشخیصی بهبود یافته و بهبود زنده ماندن و افزایش بروز بیماری را منعکس کند.

این تحقیقات در مجله مغز و اعصاب، جراحی مغز و اعصاب و روانپزشکی منتشر شد.

مولتیپل اسکلروزیس (Multiple sclerosis) یا MS که در انگلیسی disseminated sclerosis و در فرانسوی sclerose enplaques نامیده می‌شود، نوعی بیماری مزمن و اغلب پیشرونده دستگاه عصبی مرکزی است که با از بین رفتن غشای میلین در برخی از اعصاب مغز و نخاع به صورت تکه‌های کوچک مشخص می‌شود.

از بین رفتن غلاف میلین باعت اختلال در انتقال پیامهای عصبی است. علت این بیماری ناشناخته است. در بالغان جوان بین 20 تا 40 سال شایع‌تر بوده و میزان ابتلا در زنان دو برابر مردان است.

نتایج مطالعه ای جدید که در دانشگاه Edinburg و Aberdeen انجام شده، نشان داده که با توجه به آمارهای موجود ، بالاترین رقم ابتلا به بیماری ام اس در جزائر اُرکنی (Orkney ) اسکاتلند وجود دارد .

بر اساس این مطالعه ، میزان قطعی و محتمل در این جزائر حدود 402 در هر صدهزار نفر است. اینکه دلیل بالا بودن احتمال بیماری در این مناطق چیست ، موضو عی است که فعلاً در حال بررسی است . اما احتمالاً مسئله ژنتیک نقش مؤثری دارد. در مطالعات قبلی، کانادا و اسکاندیناوی بالاترین رقم ابتلا را داشتند.
