شاید شما نیز این میوه ی خوش مزه ی استوایی را امتحان کرده و از عطر و طعم آن لذت برده اید اما اگر بدانید که این میوه چقدر می تواند در سلامتی تان نقش داشته باشد حیرت زده خواهید شد. این میوه آنقدر مفید است که به آن لقب ملکه ی میوه ها داده اند.

از دوران باستان این میوه برای درمان بیماری ها، به خصوص بیماری های تب دار مورد استفاده قرار گرفته است. گمان می رود این میوه با کاهش میزان میکروب ها در بدن، تب را درمان می کند. منگوستین خاصیت آنتی باکتریایی و ضدالتهابی دارد. پوست ارغوانی و خوش رنگ آن را خشک می کنند و پودر آن را برای درمان عفونت ها مورد استفاده قرار می دهند. از این میوه می توان در درمان اسهال، عفونت های مجاری ادراری و اگزما نیز بهره برد.

تحقیقات به اثبات رسانده است که انواع گوناگونی از ترکیبات بیولوژیکی فعال، به نام «گزانتون ها» در پوسته ی این میوه وجود دارند که می توانند فواید متعددی برای بدن داشته باشند. این مواد بیولوژیکی کارایی سلول ها را بالا می برند و به آن ها انرژی می بخشد.

بررسی ای که بر روی بیماران دیابتی به انجام رسیده است نشان می دهد این بیماران با مصرف پودر پوست این میوه توانسته اند انرژی بیشتری داشته باشند، وزن شان را کاهش دهند، گردش خون در بدن شان سرعت یابد و قند خون خود را پایین آورند. افراد مبتلا به دیابت نوع اول و دوم که از التهاب بافت ها رنج می برند، با مصرف این میوه بهبودی را در درجات مختلف تجربه کرده اند.

فواید متعدد منگوستین تقریبا تا چهل سال قبل به خوبی شناخته نشده بود اما اکنون دانشمندان با بررسی این میوه خواص شگفت انگیزی را برای آن کشف کرده اند. منگوستین خواص جادویی خود را مدیون مقدار بالایی از گزانتون هاست و گفته می شود میزان گزانتون ها در این میوه بیش از مقدار آن در هر ماده ی زنده دیگر می باشد.

گزانتون ها در درمان بسیاری از بیماری ها موثرند، از جمله:
آلزایمر - پارکینسون - اضطراب - آلرژی - افسردگی - بیماری های لثه - میگرن - حساسیت های پوستی - فشار خون بالا - دردهای عصبی - تومورها - زخم معده - پوکی استخوان - آب مروارید و دیابت.
همچنین می توانند به عنوان یک ماده ی انرژی بخش، ضدپیری، ضدالتهاب و آرام بخش مورد استفاده قرار گیرند.
