پنل اروپا در محصولات رژیم غذایی، تغذیه و آلرژی به تازگی حد بالای قابل تحمل مجاز ویتامین D را پس از درخواست از کمیسیون اروپا افزایش داد، پانل اروپایی رژیم غذایی با نگاه به تحقیقات انجام گرفته تا به امروز به ارزیابی مجدد در تغییر در حد بالایی مصرف ویتامین D اقدام کرده است.
در نتیجه، پانل حد بالایی مصرف را تا 4000 IU ویتامین D / در روز برای بزرگسالان و نوجوانان بزرگتر از یازده سال و در صورت عدم پیدا کردن شواهدی از هیپرکلسمی تا 11،000 IU / در روز افزایش داده است.

برای کودکان بین 1-10 سال ، پانل پیشنهاد حد ویتامین D بالای 2000 IU / در روز را می دهد. برای نوزادان زیر یک سال، حد بالایی در 1000 IU / در روز تعیین شد.

مضرات مصرف بیش از حد ویتامین D
دکتر کومار در این باره بیان می کند که مطالعات پیشین به رابطه میان میزان ویتامین D در خون و بهبود کارکرد قلبی اشاره دارند به این ترتیب اغلب والدین، کودکان چاق را در رژیمی سرشار از ویتامین D قرار می دهند.
میزان بالای ویتامین D در نوجوانان مبتلا به چاقی، بیماری های قلبی و خطر ابتلا به دیابت را کاهش نمی دهد، بلکه موجب افزایش ذخیره سازی کلسترول و تری گلیسیرید نیز می شود.
«سما کومار»، پزشک غدد اطفال در کلینیک مایو، به مدت ۱۰ سال در زمینه تاثیرات مکمل های ویتامین D بر روی کودکان مطالعه کرده است. تا به امروز او و تیم تحقیقاتی اش تمرکز خود را بر روی منافعی که ویتامین D برای کودکان دارد متمرکز ساخته است.
آخرین پژوهش آنها نیز معطوف به تاثیراتی است که درمان به وسیله ویتامین D۳ بر روی عملکرد اندوتلیال نوجوانان مبتلا به چاقی می گذارد.
بر اساس اطلاعات منتشر شده بیش از یک سوم جمعیت نوجوانان اضافه وزن دارند. مطالعات مشاهده ایی دیگری که در این زمینه انجام گرفته نیز به ارتباط بین کمبود ویتامین D و مجموعه ای از بیماری های عوارض با اضافه وزن اشاره کرده است.
از این عوارض می توان به انواع بیماری های قلبی و عروقی و همچنین مقاومت به انسولین اشاره کرد. به همین منظور نیز در برخی از موارد، مسئولین برای کاهش یا معکوس کردن عوارض جانبی ناشی از چاقی مصرف میزان بالای مکمل های ویتامین D را توصیه می کنند.
دکتر کومار در این باره بیان می کند که مطالعات پیشین به رابطه میان میزان ویتامین D در خون و بهبود کارکرد قلبی اشاره دارند به این ترتیب اغلب والدین، کودکان چاق را در رژیمی سرشار از ویتامین D قرار می دهند.
گاهی مصرف روزانه این ویتامین به بیش از ۵ الی ۱۰ برابر مقدار نرمال آن می رسد. به این ترتیب می توان گفت که مصرف زیاد این ویتامین نه تنها برای بدن مفید نخواهد بود بلکه مضرات فراوانی را نیز به همراه خواهد داشت.
