سماق، به عنوان چاشنی برای بسیاری از غذاها به کار می‌رود و دارای خواص دارویی فراوانی، از جمله رفع درد دندان، تقویت لثه، برطرف نمودن تب،‌ نقرس و رماتیسم است.

سماق، یکی از اقلام چیدنی بر سر سفره هفت سین است که نماد رنگ (طلوع خورشید) و مزه زندگی است.

سماق، درختچه‌ای است به ارتفاع 4- 3 متر که شاخه‌های جوان و دمبرگ‌های آن را موهای ریزی پوشانده است. گل‌های آن، حنایی رنگ است و در حدود 10 سانتی‌متر طول دارد و دارای میوه‌های خوشه‌ای شکل به رنگ قرمز و قهوه‌ای است که ابتدا طعم آن گس بوده و پس از رسیدن ترش می‌شوند.

نام علمی سماق Rhus coriaria است که در قدیم به آن "سماک" نیز می‌گفتند. در حقیقت فارسی آن سماک و عربی آن سماق است.

میوه‌ی سماق پس از کوبیدن به عنوان چاشنی، همرا با غذاهایی مانند کباب استفاده می‌شود.

خواص دارویی سماق:

• برای بیماران دیابتی مفید است، زیرا یکی از عوامل به وجود آمدن عوارض مختلف در دیابتی‌ها، ترکیب گلوکز با پروتئین‌های حیاتی بدن است که به تغییر ساختار شیمیایی و عملکرد این پروتئین‌ها می‌انجامد و مطالعات نشان می‌دهد که سماق تا 81 درصد از بروز این فرآیند پیشگیری می‌کند.

• دارای طبیعت سرد و خشک است.

• برای درد دندان مفید است.

• تحریک کننده اشتها است.

• باعث تقویت لثه می‌شود.

• به دلیل داشتن تانن فراوان، قابض و پاک کننده معده است.

• برای دستگاه گوارش خاصیت آنتی‌ بیوتیکی دارد.

• ادرارآور است.

• برطرف کننده تب است.

• برطرف کننده نقرس و رماتیسم است.



• خون را تصفیه می‌کند و مواد زائد خون مانند اوره را دفع می‌کند.

• در قدیم، برگ درخت سماق را دم کرده و برای سیاه کردن مو از آن استفاده می‌کردند.

• چای سماق برای کاهش تعریق به کار می‌رود.

• غرغره دم کرده سماق برای ورم گلو و دهان مفید است.

سماق خواص زیادی داره از اون غافل نشوید.
