گروه تحقیقات بین‌المللی از دانشکده پزشکی چاریته برلین، یافته‌های جدیدی در رابطه با عملکرد سلول‌های بنیادی ماهیچه ارائه کردند .

پژوهشگران تعدادی از خانواده‌هایی را که کودکان‌شان از بیماری ماهیچه‌ای پیشرفته رنج می‌بردند، مورد بررسی قرار داده‌اند و با به کارگیری تکنیک تحلیل ژن که با عنوان "چینش ژن نسل بعدی" شناخته شده است، ژن معیوبی با نام MEGF10 که عامل ضعف ماهیچه است، را شناسایی کرده‌اند.

به گفته پژوهشگران، این روش‌ها آنها را در ترتیب دهی و چینش هزاران ژن و در عین حال کشف ژن‌های معیوب در تمام بیماران قادر خواهد کرد که به این ترتیب بسیاری از خانواده‌ها می‌توانند با این روش به تشخیص بیماری‌های‌شان امیدوار باشند.

به گزارش خبرگزاری ایسنا، طبق این پژوهش، کودکان مبتلا به ضعف شدید عضلانی وابسته به ژن، از ضعف جدی ساختمان عضلانی بدن و اعضای داخلی از جمله ماهیچه تنفسی (دیافراگم) رنج می‌برند که پیامد این بیماری برای بیماران خردسال استفاده از ویلچر برای حرکت و تنفس مصنوعی مکرر است.

چنین بیمارانی اغلب برای خوردن غذا به استفاده از لوله نیاز دارند، چرا که عضلات مری به درستی عمل نمی‌کنند.

در بدن انسان‌های سالم، سلول بنیادی ماهیچه با نام "ستلایت" بر روی فیبرهای ماهیچه می‌چسبد و معمولا به صورت غیر فعال باقی می‌ماند.

اگر این فیبرهای ماهیچه‌ای آسیب ببینند یا ماهیچه در اثر ورزش افزایش حجم پیدا کند، سلول‌های "ستلایت" تقسیم و با فیبرهای ماهیچه، ترکیب و باعث رشد ماهیچه می‌شود.

این روند در کودکان بیمار، مختل است. در بدن این کودکان، پروتئینی که مسئول اتصال به سلول "ستلایت" است، نمی‌تواند توسط ژن MEGF10 تغییر یافته و مورد استفاده قرار بگیرد؛ بنابراین، این سلول‌ها نمی‌توانند بر روی فیبر ماهیچه بچسبند و در پی آن ماهیچه دیگر قادر به ترمیم نیست.

محققان بر اهمیت روش‌های جدید تحلیل ژنی تاکید داشته و این خبر را برای تمام خانواده‌هایی که به اختلالات ژنتیکی‌ کمیاب مبتلا هستند، خوشحال کننده دانستند.
