فیزیوتراپی (به انگلیسی: physiotherapy) شیوه‌ای از درمان که روشهای مختلف غیر دارویی و جراحی مانند: تجهیزات فیزیکی، مانورهای دستی، تمرین درمانی و هیدرو تراپی و یا امکانات درمانهای طبیعی را برای پیشبرد معالجه به کار می‌گیرد، در این روشها از ورزش، نور، پرتوهای فرابنفش و فروسرخ، گرما و جریان برق استفاده می‌شود. فیزیوتراپی حیطه‌ای از پزشکی است که هدف آن پیشگیری از بیماری‌ها، درمان، توانبخشی و بالا بردن سطح سلامت می‌باشد.

واژه فیزیوتراپی از «فیزیو= جسمانی و یا طبیعی» و «تراپی=درمان»، به‌معنای ترکیبی درمان جسم ساخته شده‌است. در بعضی از منابع لغت اصلی که کلمه فیزیوتراپی ازآن گرفته شده‌است کلمه physiological therapeutics می‌باشد. البته مداخلات درمانی در فیزیوتراپی بخش کوچکی از عملیات آن محسوب می‌گردد. درفیزیوتراپی هدف ارتقای عملکرد جسمانی بدن می‌باشد البته با توجه به تداخل و ارتباط زیاد سیستمهای بدن درمانهای فیزیوتراپی که توسط فیزیوتراپیست انجام می‌شود مستقیم یا غیر مستقیم باعث بهبود عملکرد سیستم فیزیولوژیک نیز می‌شود مثلاً فیزیوتراپی دستگاه تنفسی موجب بهبود درصد گازهای خون(دی اکسید کربن و اکسیژن)و تغییر میزان اسیدیته خون شده که به نوبه خود می‌تواند باعث بهبود سطح هشیاری شود.

فیزیوتراپیست در این رشته به عنوان درمانگر شناخته می‌شود که به نوعی یک پراکتیشینر نیز می‌باشد. با توجه به این که فیزیوتراپی درمان فیزیولوژیک و جسمانی بیماریها است آناتومی و حرکت شناسی(kinesiology)و فیزیولوژی حرکت از اهمیت بیشتری برخوردار است.

درمان در فیزیوتراپی به طور کلی به سه گروه اصلی تقسیم می‌شود:

۱- تمرین درمانی: فیزیوتراپیست به وسیله تجویز؛ انجام و آموزش ورزشهای درمانی خاص؛ ماساژ؛ ورزش در آب (Hydrotherapy)؛ اقدام به درمان بیمار یا افزایش سطح سلامت می‌کند.

۲- الکتروتراپی:درمان به وسیله دستگاههای ویژه انجام می‌شود این دستگاهها معمولاً امواج خاصی را (امواج مایکرو ویو؛ امواج کوتاه رایویی؛ امواج مافوق صوت؛ امواج الکتریکی) که همگی توسط دستگاه به شکل خاصی تولیدشده و تغییر می‌یابند(مدوله می‌شوند).

۳- مهارتهای درمان با دست(Manual Therapy)

مهمترین حیطه‌های فعالیت فیزیوتراپی در پزشکی شامل درمان موارد زیر است: ۱-بیماریهای دستگاه حرکتی (ارتوپدی). ۲-بیماریهای دستگاه قلبی و تنفسی. ۳-بیماریهای دستگاه اعصاب محیطی و مرکزی. ۴-بیماریهای پوستی و سوختگیها. ۵-درد و کنترل درد. ۶-بیماریهای شغلی
