تعاريف متعددي(با توجه به حوزه کاربرد) از ان ال پي صورت گرفته است که دو تعريف نسبتا کامل و مورد پذيريش را به عرض مي‌رسانم.

تعريف شماره يک:
ان ال پي فرايندي است جهت از بين بردن الگوها، ذهنيت‌ها، عادت‌ها و رفتارهاي نادرست و جايگزين کردن آنها با الگوهاي، ذهنيت‌ها و رفتارهاي تعالي بخش با استفاده از قابليت‌هاي سيستم عصبي(ذهن خودآگاه و ناخودآگاه(، سيستم‌هاي ارائه و دريافت(حس‌هاي پنجگانه) و قابليت‌هاي کلامي و برنامه‌ريزي مناسب.

تعريف شماره دو:
ان ال پي فرايندي است که تشريح مي‌نمايد: ما چگونه فکر مي‌کنيم(Neuro )، چگونه به صورت کلامي يا غير کلامي ارتباط برقرار مي‌کنيم(linguistic ) و الگوها رفتاري و احساسي ما چيستند(programs ) مي‌پردازد. آنها را بررسي مي‌نمايد و تغييراتي را در راستاي اهدافي مشخص ايجاد مي‌نمايد.


در تعاريفي، ان ال پي را مطالعه ساختارهاي ذهني (structure of subjectivity) نيز ناميده‌اند. اين تعريف نيز کاملا درست است. ان ال پي مدل‌هايي را پيشنهاد مي‌کند که اين مدل‌هاي قابليت استخراج و سازماندهي لايه‌هاي ذهني که در اصطلاح به ان لايه‌هاي متا گفته مي‌شود، را به نحو شگفت‌انگيزي براي ما تسهيل مي‌نمايد. با مديريت و نگاشت اين لايه‌ها عملا امکان ارتقاء مدل‌هاي تعالي فراهم مي‌شود. بعنوان مثال اگر شما خواستار تقويت ارتباطات انساني خود هستند به عبارت ديگر اگر تمايل داريد که فردي با مهارت‌هاي بالا در مذاکره و گفتگو باشيد، با ترسيم يک مدل تعالي و مرتبط با اين خواسته و شناسايي الگوهايي(Patterns) (در ارتباط با الگوها حدود 50 تا 60 الگوي مشخص وجود دارد که در دوره پيشرفته به آنها خواهم پرداخت) مرتبط به آن امکان برنامه‌ريزي ملموس برايتان فراهم مي‌شود. در ان ال پي همانطور که در نام‌گذاري آن نيز لحاظ شده است، بحث Linguistic �بسيار جدي است. يکي از محل‌هاي مورد استفاده آن همينجاست. چرا که استخراج مدل تعالي و قرار دادن آن در لايه‌هاي متا به اين نياز دارد تا اين مدل‌ها در قالبي خاص ترسيم گردند. ترسيم مدل‌ها براي استقرار در لايه‌هاي متا با استفاده از فرمت خاصي که همانا زبان ان ال پي است صورت مي‌گيرد.

مدل متا چيست؟

اين مدل توسط ريچارد بندلر و جان گريندر از پايه گذاران ان ال پي ايجاد شده است. بر مبناي اين مدل درمي يابيم که جهان چيزي نيست مگر نقشه ذهني ما و اين همان چيزي است که نحوه تعامل هر انسان را با جهان اطرافش معين مي نمايد، با اين تفاسير پس به تعداد افراد روي کره زمين نقشه ذهني داريم که اين نقشه هاي ذهني تشکيل دهنده موفقيت يا شکست افراد چه در حورزه کاري و چه در حوزه زندگي شخصي است.

پس اگر بتوانيم اين نقشه ذهني را بيشتر بشناسيم، چگونگي شکل گيري و تغيير در آن را بدانيم، مدل بهتري از جهان خواهيم داشت و هر چه مدلي که از جهان داريم به طبيعت جهان هم خواني بيشتري داشته باشد، مديريت و استفاده استراتژيک از آن راحتر خواهد بود.

نحوه شکل گيري نقشه ذهني افراد قويا به ذهن ناخداگاه وابسته است و آموزش و تغيير در ناخوداگاه کار نسبتا دشواري است ولي امکان پذير و داراي راه کار است. در جلسه بعدي نحوه مديريت ذهن ناخدا گاه و نحوه سازماندهي مجدد نقشه ذهني، بيان خواهد شد.
