تلاش جهانی برای درمان MS از طریق سلول های بنیادی

کارآزمایی بالینی عمده جهانی جدید، آزمایش اینکه آیا سلول های بنیادی را می توان با امنیت خاطر برای درمان مولتیپل اسکلروز یس (MS) استفاده کرد، اعلام شده است. این تحقیق در این خصوص که آیا سلول می تواند در کاهش سرعت ، توقف و یا معکوس کردن آسیب به مغز و طناب نخاعی ناشی از ضایعات مولتیپل اسکلروز یس (MS) فعال موثر باشد، تفحص خواهد کرد. دانشمندان می گویند نتایج دانش پزشکی "سال" ، در این خصوص چشمگیر خواهد بود.
10 میلیون پوند ، مربوط به 200 بیمار در سراسر جهان ، برای شروع در اواخر این سال سرمایه گذاری شده اند و بین سه و پنج سال طول خواهد کشید.
دانشمندان در بریتانیا از 1 میلیون پوند بودجه مشترک انجمنMS و بنیاد سلول های بنیادی انگلستان برای برگزاری جلسات در انگلستان و نیز برای دو مطالعه دیگر دریافت کرده است.
پائولو مورارو ، محقق و سرپرست مطالعه مستقر در امپریال کالج لندن گفت : "این اولین بار است که محققان از سراسر جهان برای آزمایش سلول های بنیادی ،جهت درمان MS گرد هم آمده اند و در چنین کارآزمایی بالینی در مقیاس بزرگ شرکت جسته اند..
تلاش با این مقیاس ،بصورت انفرادی غیر ممکن است به همین دلیل اگر ما به پیشرفت در این زمینه می اندیشیم این نوع همکاری ضروری است
محققان در لندن و ادینبورگ ، سلول های بنیادی از مغز استخوان 13 شرکت کننده در این تحقیق را برداشتند ، سپس آنها را در آزمایشگاه رشد داده و دوباره به داخل جریان خون آنها تزریق کردند.
سلول های بنیادی راه خود را به مغز، جایی که در آن آسیب ناشی از MS رخ می دهد باز کرده و با هدف قرار دادن ضایعات "فعال" ، آسیب عصبی ناشی از این بیماری را برطرف کردند

MS یک بیماری ناتوان کننده عصبی موثر بر سیستم اعصاب مرکزی است و علائم آن عبارتند از مشکلات حرکتی ، بینایی و کنترل مثانه ، درد ، خستگی شدید و سفتی عضلانی است.
به گفته انجمن MS: دانشمندان معتقدند مطالعه جدید زمان صرف شده برای تست اینکه آیا سلول های بنیادی می تواند یک درمان بی خطر و موثر برای افراد مبتلا به MS باشد کاهش خواهد داد.

گیلیسپی سیمون ، مدیر اجرایی موسسه خیریه ، گفت : "سلول های بنیادی دارای پتانسیل فوق العاده ای به عنوان یک گزینه درمانی برای افراد مبتلا به MS در آینده خواهد بود و ما خوشحال هستیم که به بودجه این تحقیق مهم در جهان دست یافتیم و تحقیقات پیشرو، قدرت همکاری های تحقیقاتی بین المللی و همکاری مشترک بین موسسات خیریه رانشان می دهد
سر ریچارد سایکس ، رئیس بنیاد یاخته های انگلستان ، گفت : "خوشحالم که با کار کردن در همکاری با انجمن MS ما توانسته ایم به پیشرفت سریع تر از نویدبخش ترین پروژه های تحقیقاتی جهانی نائل آییم.
