پژوهشگران آمریکایی دریافتند که استفاده از دستها هنگام سخن گفتن، افکار و حافظه را تقویت کرده و به کودکان در یادگیری کمک می کند.
محققان دانشگاههای پیستبورگ و شیکاگو با بررسی 50 خانواده ای که کودکان کمتر از یکسال داشتند کشف کردند کودکانی که برای برقراری ارتباط با اعضای خانواده از دستها استفاده می کنند شاداب تر از سایر کودکان هستند.
در این بررسی مشخص شد که در مدت یک ساعت و نیم این کودکان توانستند از طریق حرکات دست 24 کلمه را بیان کنند درحالی که در همین مدت زمان، کودکانی که از حرکات دست استفاده نمی کردند تنها موفق شدند 13 واژه را بیان کنند.
به گفته این محققان، استفاده از دستها نه تنها برای بیان بهتر کلمات مفید است بلکه می تواند به یادگیری نیز کمک کند. همچنین فضای بیشتری را در اختیار حافظه قرار دهد و به کودک برای کسب تواناییهای جدید یاری رساند.
براساس گزارش ساینس، این دانشمندان برای کسب این نتایج در آزمایش دیگری برای دو گروه از کودکان دبستانی یک سری تمرینات ریاضی را تجویز کردند.
کودکان گروه اول می توانستند برای انجام محاسبات آزادانه از حرکات دست استفاده کنند اما از گروه دوم خواسته شد که از دستها استفاده نکنند. نتایج این آزمایش نشان داد که گروه اول موفق شدند در مدت چند ثانیه تمام مسائل خود را حل کنند.
"حرف زدن با دستها" در بسیاری از جوامع و فرهنگها یک عادت بد به شمار می رود درحالی که نتایج این تحقیقات حاکی از آن است که 70 تا 80 درصد از اطلاعات از طریق چشمها و بر پایه آنچه که فرد می بیند و شکل آن را تائید می کند به مغز می رسند. بنابراین دیدن حرکات دست می تواند به یادگیری کمک کند.[http://www.asriran.com/fa/pages/?cid=84842
