يكي از محققان دانشمندان دانشگاه بيرمنگام كشف كرده اند كه هورمون نشاط آور سِروتونين(Serotonin)، باعث مي شود سلولهاي سرطاني ،خود را تخريب و از بين ببرند. سِروتونين يك انتقال دهندة عصبي است و در انسان ريتم خواب، حالت احساسي و درجه حرارت بدن را تنظيم مي كند.
نتايج اين تحقيقات مي تواند توضيح دهنده اين موضوع باشد كه چرا افراد خوشبين قابليت اين را دارند كه بر بيماريهاي توموري غلبه كنند. سِروتونين وارد سلول سرطاني شده و در نهايت منجر به خودكشي سلول مي شود. اين هورمون نشاط آور، داراي پتانسيل لازم براي يك روش درماني موثر است.
در مرحلة بعد، اين موضوع آزمايش مي شود كه چگونه با استفاده از داروهاي شِبه سِروتونين بيماران، درمان شوند.
اين گروه سالهاست كه مشغول بررسي ارتباط بين سيستم ايمني بدن و مغز است و اينكه تفكر مثبت چه تاثيري بر روي سرطان دارد.

تقریبا الان توی برنامه درمانیه اکثر بچه های 8-12ساله بیمارستان محک ورزش درمانی هست
به این نتیجه رسیدن که با شادی و نشاطی که بعد از ورزش حاصل میشه روحیه ومقاومت بچه ها هم بالاتر میره.کما اینکه مزیتهای فیزیکی هم،من جمله ترشح سروتونین داره.
