محققان دانشگاه علوم پزشکی روچستر در مرکز (URMC) در ارزیابی اثرات این دارو برای ام اس بیش از 10 سال تحقیق کرده اند که نشان داده برخی عملکردهای عصبی در افراد مبتلا به این بیماری را ارتقاء داده و به بهبود علایم ام اس کمک کرده و همین تلاش این محققان راه را برای اقدام امروز توسط FDA. هموار کرده است.

به گفته دکتر اندرو گودمن رئیس URMC:"این روز خوبی است برای کسانی که ازبیماری ام اس رنج می برند."
پزشکان در حال حاضر ابزار جدید را در اختیار خود دارند که مکمل روش های درمانی بیماری بوده و کمبود درمانهای قبلی را می تواند رفع نماید برای بعضی از بیماران ، این دارو مایه بهبود ی خواهد بود و برای تحرک دوباره آنها کمک شایانی کرده و موجب استقلال آنها در زندگی روزانه اشان خواهد شد.
محققان در URMC در توسعه این مطالعه و آزمایشات بالینی دریافتند که بهبود تحرک مستمر و سرعت موقع راه رفتن در بیش از یک سوم بیماران مبتلا به بیماری ام اس مشاهده می گردد.

این اولین دارویی است برای بیماری ام اس که عملکرد بیماران را بهبود می بخشد.

گودمن و همکارانش نتایج فاز 3 کارآزمایی بالینی این دارو را در مجله لانست در ماه فوریه گذشته منتشر کردند.

Fampridine – SR توسط آکوردا توسعه یافته و تحت نام Ampyra به بازار عرضه شده است.

گودمن بعنوان مشاورهمگام با Acorda برای مطالعات fampridine در درمان ام.اس همکاری داشته است.

شرکت درخواست تایید داروی جدید را در ماه فوریه 2009 به FDA ارائه داده بود.

این دارو سیستم ایمنی رو کاهش میده مثل سینووکس خودمون یا تنظیم هم میکنه ؟چون اکثر داروهای جدید سیستم ایمنی رو جوری پایین میارن که احتمال عفونت مغز خیلی بالا میره.
