در تحقیق جدیدی که در امریکا انجام شد، مشخص گردید که محرومیت و دوری از روابط اجتماعی تولید میلین را کاهش می دهد. در حقیقت کناره گیری از اجتماع موجب تغییرات رفتاری و ساختاری در نورون ها (سلول های عصبی) شده و همچنین با اختلال در تولید میلین همراه است. میلین یک غلاف پروتئینی است که اطراف رشته های اکسون را می پوشاند و اکسون رشته بلند و باریکی است که پیام های الکتریکی را در بین سلول های عصبی منتقل می کند.

محققان همچنین دریافتند که دوری از اجتماع، موجب کاهش سلول های تولید کننده میلین در بخشی از مغز می شود که درایجاد عواطف و تفکر حائز اهمیت است. بنابراین می توان گفت که کاهش تولید میلین در پیشرفت بیماری های روانی نیز نقش دارد. خبر خوب این است که با برقراری مجدد روابط اجتماعی، تولید میلین دوباره آغاز می گردد.

تولید میلین
میلین یک غلاف محافظتی را در اطراف رشته های عصبی در مغز، نخاع و چشم تشکیل می دهد و بدین وسیله پیام های الکتریکی حیاتی را که توسط این رشته ها منتقل می شوند، حفظ می کند. زمانی که میلین تخریب شود، پیام های الکتریکی نمی توانند انتقال یابند و نتیجه این اختلال، بروز بیماری هایی مانند MS است که علایم آن از بی حسی خفیف اندام ها تا فلج کامل و نابینایی متفاوت است. در بیماری MS فقدان میلین به دلیل حمله سیستم ایمنی بدن بیمار ایجاد می شود که این بافت را به اشتباه بیگانه فرض کرده و آن را تخریب می نماید. در تحقیقات جدید، دانشمندان برای درمان MS از ذرات نانو استفاده کرده و سیستم ایمنی را وادار می کنند که حمله به میلین را متوقف کند.
یکی دیگر از دلایل فقدان میلین زمانی است که تولید میلین جدید متوقف شود. میلین جدید توسط سلول های عصبی موسوم به الیگودندروسیت ها ساخته می شود. این عمل هم در حین فرآیند تکامل، زمانی که سلول های عصبی جدید در حال تولید هستند و هم در بزرگسالی به منظور ترمیم آسیب ها مانند آسیب ناشی از فعالیت سیستم ایمنی در بیماران مبتلا به MS، انجام می شود.
مطالعه اخیر نشان داد که بعد از 8 هفته دوری از اجتماع، علایم مغزی بروز می کنند. بررسی بافت مغزی حاکی از این است که کناره گیری از اجتماع موجب کاهش الیگودندروسیت های تولید کننده میلین در لایه قشری پیشانی در مغز می شود. این بخش از مغز مسئول رفتارادراکی و عواطف است. محققان همچنین شاهد تغییراتی در کروماتین (ماده در برگیرنده DNA) بودند که مانع بیان ژن در الیگودندروسیت ها می شود و به این ترتیب ظرفیت تولید میلین باز هم کاهش می یابد.
در ادامه تحقیقات مشاهده شد که با بازگشت به اجتماع و برقراری روابط، بعد از 4 هفته علایم مغزی رفع شده و تغییرات ایجاد شده در بیان ژن به حالت طبیعی باز می گردند.
نتایج این تحقیق نشان می دهد که الیگودندروسیت ها در پاسخ به محرک های محیطی، میلین تولید می کنند. همچنین تشکیل الیگودندروسیت ها نیز با تغییرات محیطی تحت تاثیر قرار می گیرد. به گفته متخصصان مشکلات مربوط به میلین با بروز اختلالات روانی از جمله اضطراب، اوتیسم، اسکیزوفرنی و افسردگی همراه است. بنابراین برای پیشگیری از بیماری های روانی و سلامت سیستم عصبی، توصیه می شود که روابط اجتماعی خود را حفظ کرده و در فعالیت های گروهی مختلف در جامعه شرکت کنید.
