تیمی بین‌المللی از دانشمندان به رهبری «ایمی واگرز» از دانشگاه هاروارد، با جفت‌کردن سیستم‌ گردش خون موش‌های پیر مبتلا به اسکلروز چندگانه به سیستم‌های موش‌های جوان و سالم، موجب جوان‌تر شدن آ‌ن‌ها شدند.

به گزارش سرویس علمی خبرگزاری دانشجویان ایران (ایسنا)، واگرز و تیم علمی‌اش دریافتند که مولفه‌های موجود در خون جوان شکل‌گیری سلول ایمنی ضدالتهابی را سرعت بخشید.

این امر به نوبه خود، غلاف‌های میلن در حال مرگی که آکسون‌های نورونی را احاطه کرده بودند (علامت ام اس)، را احیا کرد.

دانشمندان معتقدند با استفاده از این دستاورد می‌توان داروی جدیدی را برای ام اس طراحی کرد.

در سال 2006، واگرز و ایروینگ وایسمن از دانشگاه استنفورد با قلاب‌کردن موش‌های جوان به موش‌های پیر، کبدهای موش‌های پیر را جوان کردند.

در این جا مولفه‌ای در خون موش جوان تکثیر سلول‌ بنیادی کبد را در موش‌های پیر سرعت بخشید.

در تحقیق جدید، واگرز و همکارانش دریافتند که پس از چهار هفته قرارگرفتن در معرض خون موش‌های جوان، هیپرتروفی قلب در موش‌های پیر به طور قابل‌توجهی پس‌رفت داشت.

آن‌ها پی بردند که یک مولفه رشد در موش‌های جوان به نام GDF11 با افزایش سن کاهش می‌یابد.

درمان موش‌های پیر با GDF11 اثرات parabiosis (برگشت و وقفه فعالیت حیاتی موجود) را تکرار و هیپرتروفی مرتبط با سن را معکوس کرد و همچنین رویکرد درمانی جدیدی را برای پیری قلب آشکار کرد.

جفت‌کردن دو سیستم گردش خون (Heterochronic parabiosis) حدود 100 سال است که وجود دارد و به پیشرفت‌هایی در علم ایمنی منجر شده است، اما واگرز و همکارانش برای نخستین بار از آن برای بررسی پیرشدن سلول بنیادی استفاده کرده‌اند.

به گفته این دانشمند، در ماه‌های آتی تیم وی از این فرایند جفت‌کردن برای بررسی کارکرد ایمنی خون و همچنین تغییراتی در سیستم عصبی استفاده می‌کنند.
