محله و مسیر کوهستانی دَرَکه در شمال‌غرب تهران قرار دارد و آغاز یکی از مسیرهای محبوب کوه‌پیمایی در تهران است .

نام درکه از درگِ که نوعی کفش برفی برای راهپیمایی بر روی برف بوده، استنتاج شده‌است .

درکه یکی از از قدیمی‌ترین و زیباترین محلات ییلاقی شمیرانات است که در امتداد درهٔ مصفایی به همین نام به صورت شمالی-جنوبی و در دو طرف مسیر رودخانهٔ درکه واقع شده‌است .

درکه از شمال به رشته کوه توچال، از شرق به اراضی دانشگاه و اوین، از غرب به بازوهای کوه توچال و سعادت آباد، و از جنوب به اوین محدود است.

قدمت درکه به حدود قرن پنجم هجری بر می‌گردد و سادات ساکن در آن از نسل امامزاده سید محمد والی از نوادگان علی بن حسین هستند.

کشف سنگ‌های قبور، تنور‌های قدیمی، هاون‌های سنگی تراش خورده هنگام خاکبرداری و احداث بنای امامزاده، همچنین جاری بودن چشمه آب در شمال بقعه متبرکه موید سکنای اولیه اهالی درکه در اطراف همین امامزاده می‌باشد .

در قسمت مشرق دركه رودخانه ای است كه وسیله آبیاری باغهای دركه است. این رود از دامنه های قله شاه نشین و توچال سرچشمه می گیرد.

منشا اصلی آن هفت چشمه است كه درست از پای قله شاه نشین سرچشمه می گیرد و اهالی به آن هفت دقونی می گویند (اصطلاح دقونی شاید به علت جوشش آب باشد در هر حال وجه تسمیه آن درست معلوم نیست)

البته در بین راه چشمه سارهای زیادی وجود دارد كه اغلب در تابستان خیلی كم آب یا خشك می شود.

آب این رود در بهار بسیار زیاد است شیب این نهر خیلی تند است و طول این رودخانه كه از وسط ده دركه گذشته و سپس به اوین می رسد، حدود 15 كیلومتر است.

در مسیر آن آبشارهای زیبا و حوضهای طبیعی وجود دارد مانند آبشار بند عبدالله، آبشار كارا و هفت حوض (كه هفت حوض طبیعی سنگی است و بسیار جالب و زیباست)

از چشمه های معروف كه در منشا این نهر دخالت دارد چشمه كفو است كه آب خارج شده از آن به طول یك كیلومتر در اثر كف كردن مانند شیر سفید است .
