مبتلایان به بیماری ام‌اس همواره از فعالیت‌های بدنی می‌ترسند. ‌ تعادل‌نداشتن‌حین راه رفتن، لرزش، ناپایداری در راه رفتن، سرگیجه، حرکات ناگهانی اندام‌ها، فقدان هماهنگی بدن و ضعف‌ ازجمله عواملی است که مبتلایان به بیماری ام‌اس را از حضور در عرصه‌های ورزشی بازمی‌دارد.
هرچند تحقیقات نشان داده است تمرین کردن و راه رفتن، قدرت بیماران ام‌اس را افزایش می‌دهد؛ اما باز هم تعدادی از بیماران ام‌اس از آشکار کردن بیماری خود واهمه دارند. برخلاف این افراد، عده‌ای دیگر از ام‌اسی‌ها با مقابله با بیماری، به دنبال این هستند که توانایی‌های خود را ثابت کنند. بسیاری از آنها فعالیت‌های گسترده‌ای را بویژه در کوهنوردی آغاز کرده‌اند. در این میان صعود بیماران ام‌اس به قله دماوند در سال گذشته ثابت می‌کند این بیماری ناتوان‌کننده نیست و مبتلایان به آن می‌توانند با رعایت اصول علمی و پزشکی به برنامه‌های متنوع ورزشی ازجمله کوهنوردی بپردازند.

در حال حاضر گروهی چهار نفره از بیماران ام‌اس نیز با عنوان گروه ام‌اس سنتر قرار است به ترکیه بروند و به قله آرارات صعود کنند. این نخستین فعالیت برون مرزی کوهنوردان ام‌اس سنتر در چهارمین سال فعالیت‌های آنهاست. اعضای این گروه چهار نفره را دو نفر زن تشکیل می‌دهند. حمیدرضا رحیمی کوهنوردی که شش سال است ام‌اس دارد، یکی از اعضای گروه است. او درباره جزئیات سفر به ترکیه و صعود به قله آرارات در این کشور می‌گوید: ما روز چهارشنبه از مرز زمینی به ترکیه می‌رویم و کار صعودمان از صبح جمعه آغاز می‌شود. قله آرارات 5137 متر ارتفاع دارد و صعودمان سه روز به طول می‌انجامد.
در این صعود علاوه بر رحیمی، حمید ابراهیمی و خانم‌ها عالم کلانی به اتفاق شهرزاد علیپور، تیم ام‌اس سنتر را تشکیل می‌دهند که هدف‌شان این است به بیماران ام‌اس یادآوری کنند مشکلی برای فعالیت‌های جسمانی ندارند و باید در این راه نظر جامعه را تغییر دهند.
شهرزاد علیپور که به گفته خودش اوایل شروع ورزش تا چشمه توچال به زور و با صرف زمان زیاد می‌رسید، می‌گوید: توانایی ما آم‌ها خیلی بیشتر از این است که برابر بیماری شکست بخوریم. نباید از این بیماری غول ساخت. باید پله‌پله برای علاقه و هدف تلاش کرد. من به چشمه توچال یک ساعته می‌رسیدم، اما امروز این مسافت را در زمان یک ربع طی می‌کنم. باید ایمان داشت با ورزش و روحیه خوب می‌شود با ام‌اس زندگی کرد. افراد مبتلا به ام‌اس باید برای فتح مشکلات اراده داشته باشند.
گروه کوهنوردان ام‌اس سنتر تاکنون در ایران قلل متعددی فتح کرده‌اند که از مهم‌ترین آنها می‌توان به دماوند، سبلان و دنا اشاره کرد. با این حال چهار نفر از اعضای این گروه در آستانه ثبت نخستین صعود برون‌مرزی هستند.
